Sports attraction in Liverpool

Liverpool is internationally renowned for its world class sports events and venues. Football fans have the choice of two famous teams who both play in the English Premiership and are often involved in European competitions such as the Champions league and the UEFA Cup. Liverpool FC’s home ground is Anfield, while Everton FC has its home ground at Goodison Park. The people of Liverpool are well known for their passion of playing and watching football.

Horse racing attracts thousands of visitors every year to Liverpool’s world famous race course Aintree. The John Smith’s Grand National, one of the most arduous horse racing events in the world, is held each April over three consecutive days. The Festival brings the city alive with people from all walks of live, The Grand national is an exhilarating experience for both professionals and amateurs alike. Aintree’s visitor’s centre is open to the public from May to October which provides the opportunity to walk around the weighing room, the Winner’s Enclosure and much more before placing your bets on the Race of Champions, a visual simulation of the great race.

Boxing fans will undoubtedly be familiar with Liverpool’s history of the sport from which legends such as John Conteh and former World Featherweight Champion Paul Hodkinson rose to fame. The city’s Kids Gloves provides youngsters the opportunity to learn how to box and take part in tournaments and strive to win the Golden Gloves.

Sport’s fans from around the world can be involved in Liverpool’s International Tennis Tournament which provides top quality tennis and boasts famous players which in the past have included Pat Cash, Goran Ivanisovic and Martina Navratilova playing here. The event, now in its 7th year, is held in June providing spectators with a 4000 seater stadium and a tennis village where merchandise can be purchased and includes places to enjoy a drink and something to eat.
